A-G directs Culture Minister Regev not to interfere with content of cultural institutions

In a letter to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, the Attorney-General’s office sent Culture Minister Miri Regev a clear message – don’t mess with the content of cultural institutions under your purview.

The letter, signed by Orit Koren and Dina Zilber, deputy attorney-generals, was sent to Dan Yakir, legal advisor to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel on Sunday, in response to his letter in June claiming that Regev was interfering in artistic freedom of expression when she froze funding for the Al-Midan Theater in Haifa.

The Al-Midan Theater has been the object of scrutiny since Education Minister Naftali Bennett withdrew the play "A Parallel Time," performed at the theater, from the culture basket in June.
