Activists warmly welcome right for women to immerse in mikva alone

NGOs and other activist groups praised on Thursday the position adopted by the Chief Rabbinate and the Religious Services Ministry acknowledging that preventing women from immersing alone in public mikvas if they so wished was untenable.

The issue had become increasingly heated in recent years, with activists on the one hand insisting that their rights to religious freedom, human autonomy and privacy were being violated, while the religious establishment demanded that its perception of the requirements of Jewish law be upheld in all circumstances.
