After deadly mob attack, IDF instituting changes, asks for stepped up police presence

Following a deadly lynch mob attack on injured Syrian men traveling in an IDF ambulance on Monday, the IDF is instituting classified operational changes in the ways it evacuates Syrians to Israeli hospitals, and has requested a stepped up police presence to prevent further killings and injuries.

Contrary to some media reports, the IDF did not instruct the ambulance containing two wounded Syrian nationals to stay clear of the Druse village of Majdal Shams, and the army plans to continue to evacuate Syrians injured in the country’s civil war to Israeli hospitals, in line with government policy.

However, future ambulance journeys will be accompanied by stepped up civilian police presence, and the army will change evacuation techniques, to try and avoid a repeat of similar scenes.
