Akim report: The experiences of the intellectually disabled

There is a gap between Israeli society’s perceived attitudes towards people with intellectual disabilities and how this population group experiences the public attitude towards them, according to AKIM, the National Organization for Habilitation of Children and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

Akim CEO Sigal Peretz Yahalomi and Akim chairman Ami Ayalon presented Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein on Sunday with the organization’s fourth index of Israeli society’s attitude towards the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

“Despite the testimony by the public about themselves in the survey, that they see people with intellectual disabilities as equals, [the survey] shows that people with intellectual handicaps experience it differently,” Ayalon said of the report’s findings.
