Akunis: EAPC must meet strict conditions before oil flow resumes through Arava pipeline

Oil flow through the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Company’s underground channel will not be reinstated until the pipeline is proved completely intact, Deputy Environmental Protection Minister Ofir Akunis announced on Thursday.

When an EAPC pipeline burst on December 3, some 5 million liters of crude oil gushed into the Arava Desert, causing particularly damaging impact on the Evrona Nature Reserve in the area. Akunis declared that oil cannot resume flowing through the pipeline, until the company meets a series of conditions outlined by the Environmental Protection Ministry.
