Arab Israeli makes history as first-ever Muslim appointed to 2nd highest police rank

The Israel Police on Tuesday promoted commander Jamal Hachrush to the rank of Assistant Chief, making him the first-ever Muslim to hold the second-highest rank in the agency.

Hachrush, up until now the deputy commander of the Coastal District, will be placed in charge of a special police branch to be set up in the near future to focus primarily on the problems facing the crime-ridden Arab communities of Israel.
