Arab Terror Continues Amid Push for Harsher Deterrence

Arab terrorists threw two firebombs early on Sunday morning at a house in Jerusalem's Nof Zion neighborhood near Jabel Mukaber.

One of the firebombs exploded setting a room in the house ablaze. There were no injuries or casualties but the house was damaged. Police are searching for suspects.

Jerusalem police and Border Patrol forces arrested numerous Arab overnight Saturday/Sunday for suspected disturbances. A total of 27 Arab terrorists were arrested over the weekend for throwing rocks and firebombs.

Amidst the continuing terror in the capital, the government will promote on Sunday a measure to broaden rules of engagement for security forces in and around Jerusalem by allowing police to fire live ammunition.

The proposal, drawn up in consultation with Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein, will permit live ammunition to be used against rock-throwers and firebombers in eastern Jerusalem and other parts of Israel.

Weinstein has authorized the use of the Ruger .22 rifle in eastern Jerusalem in cases of terrorism, but not during Arab demonstrations.

In addition, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has distributed a memorandum of new legislation calling for parents of rock-throwers and firebombers to pay a fine as well as establishing minimum sentences for these terrorist crimes.

Culture Minister Miri Regev will also present a bill to the government on Sunday, which would see a halting of social security benefits to the families of rock-throwing and firebombing minors.
