Atidim Stars go from periphery to IDF elite

A new program to train high school students from the periphery for elite IDF units celebrated its first cohort graduating from high school last week.

The program, called "Atidim Stars," is the initiative of Atidim, an Israeli non-profit that works to bridge the socio-economic gaps between the periphery and the center through promotion of excellence and academic education in technological and scientific fields.

Atidim found over the course of its research that the percentage of youth from the periphery in elite IDF units was significantly lower than the rest of the population and also found that one of the primary reasons for the low rate was not the result of grades, but rather personal capabilities.
