A one-year-old baby died of heatstroke yesterday (Saturday) morning. She is the second victim of the recent heatwave.
The baby's parents were on a hike in the Hula Valley last Monday, when the mother noticed that her daughter was unresponsive and called an ambulance. By the time emergency responders arrived, the father had also fainted. Both father and daughter were taken to the Ziv Medical Center in Tzfat.
Doctors recorded the baby's temperature at 41.7 degrees Celsius and diagnosed her as suffering from multiple organ failure. They continuously resuscitated her and eventually placed the baby on a ventilator and life support.
The father was in better condition and left the hospital on Tuesday.
Last week a soldier also died of heatstroke after collapsing during a tour of Jerusalem's Old City.
