Bomb blast hits Nigerian city, after rocket grenades kill 13

A bomb exploded Saturday afternoon near Maiduguri’s main market, after the city was attacked before dawn by Islamic extremists by rocket-propelled grenades that killed at least 13 people, said residents. The explosion was by the mosque near the marketplace of Maiduguri, the largest city in Nigeria’s troubled northeast. The early morning grenade attack was a new tactic by Boko Haram in the extremist group’s birthplace. Maiduguri resident Mari Madu said he counted at least 40 thunderous blasts from the grenades that began around 1 AM before he lost count.
