Shas leader Arye Deri reiterated his threats to bring down Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government over the weekend if there will not be zero percent VAT on basic household items in the the final version of the 2015-2016 state budget.
Netanyahu’s cabinet received the budget proposal from Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon Sunday. Its reforms will be presented to he socioeconomic cabinet Tuesday and the cabinet as a whole Wednesday.
Ministers said Finance Ministry staffers keep postponing meetings with them, and they are not expected to take place until Tuesday, during the meeting of the socioeconomic cabinet. For instance, a key meeting between Deri and Treasury officials that had been set for Sunday was postponed to Monday at the earliest.
