Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem in battle with religious council officials over religious services in the city

An all out war has erupted between Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem Aryeh Stern and the head of the Jerusalem Religious Council over the management of religious services in the city.

Stern was elected as Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Jerusalem in October last year and since then has sought to reform the provision of religious services in the capital which, he said on several occasions, including an interview to The Jerusalem Post, suffered from a lack of proper oversight and management, negatively impacting the quality of service provided.

One area in particular which Stern focused on was that of kashrut which is known, not just in Jerusalem but around the country, as a field which is open to corruption.
