Court sentences Rabbi Pinto to one year in jail on bribery conviction

Ending a sensational years-long saga, Tel Aviv District Court Judge Oded Mudrik on Tuesday sentenced Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto to a full year of jail time on a reduced bribery conviction as part of a plea bargain with the state.

The decision, which also carried a one million shekel fine, was a major blow to Pinto who had fought all out for community service and no jail time.

The closing arguments at Pinto’s sentencing hearing came out on May 3 with Pinto telling the court, "I apologize and accept the judgment of the state."
