Deputy head of the Shin Bet nominated for police commissioner

The deputy head of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) has been nominated as the next commissioner of the Israel Police, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Friday.

The deputy, named only as “R” due to confidentiality, served for years as a commander in the IDF Paratroops Brigade before joining the Shin Bet in 1987. In the agency he has served in a number of roles, including as commander of the West Bank and Jerusalem district, the southern district, as well as command roles involving the agency’s manpower, strategy, and planning departments.

Since 2014 he has served as the deputy head of the agency.
