Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein sent a strongly-worded letter Thursday to the heads of different parliamentary factions, demanding they inform him without delay about their parties' members for the Knesset's various permanent committees.
The Speaker wrote that two weeks have passed since the establishment of the government, and while some factions had started assigning members to Knesset committees, several have not yet bothered to do so.
"Needless to say, the delay in appointing MKs to the Knesset's committees hinders the Knesset's ability to start parliamentary work," Edelstein stressed. "Both in legislation and with regard to the supervision of the government."
"Above all," he added, "this stalling increases the public's lack of confidence in the legislature."
Edelstein has demanded that all party heads inform him without delay which party members will serve on which committees, "so that next week the Knesset will be able to act in full accordance with the responsibilities and expectations of the public."
