Egypt to resume football league, but without fans, after stadium clashes

Egypt said Wednesday its premier football league, suspended after a stampede and clashes at a Cairo stadium, will be allowed to resume play but no fans will be allowed to attend matches. Egyptian authorities suspended all major football matches after 19 people were killed on February 8 when violence erupted at a stadium as police fired tear gas and birdshot at disruptive fans. A Cabinet statement said the premier league would resume play after a 40-day mourning period called following the February 8 incident, without providing an exact date for the resumption.
