Ethiopian Lt. Colonel makes IDF history

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot has nominated Lt. Col. Avraham Yitzhak to serve as Chief medical officer of the army’s Southern Command.

Once his nomination is approved by Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, Yitzhak who was born in Ethiopia and moved to Israel in 1991 at the age of 19, will be the Israeli army’s first colonel of Ethiopian descent.
