Far-rightist Baruch Marzel arrested for skipping court date

Far right activist Baruch Marzel was arrested on Thursday morning for failing to appear at a prior court date, Judea and Samaria police said, adding that he will be questioned in regard to an incident on Tisha B’av at the Tomb of the Patriarchs.

Jewish worshipers reported this week that they were holding a prayer service at the site on Tisha B’av when a muezzin began calling Muslims to the building – a holy site for both Jews and Muslims – in order to disrupt the prayer service. The Jewish worshipers asked police to intervene and ended up barricading the muezzin with a room at the building and clashing with security forces.

Judea and Samaria district police said that Marzel was arrested because of the prior warrant, but that he will also be questioned about the Tisha B’av incident, as have several other people who have been called in for questioning in recent days by Hebron police.
