French conductor Frederic Chaslin, former president Peres to get awards

Celebrated French conductor, pianist and composer Frédéric Chaslin and former Israeli president Shimon Peres will be in the limelight at the Jerusalem Theater Thursday night at a glittering awards ceremony. The event, courtesy of the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will see Chaslin named Honorary Fellow, while 91-year-old Peres will have Honorary Trustee status, the academy’s highest honor, bestowed upon him.

The academy officials responsible for selecting the honorees, academy management committee chair Yair Green and academy president Prof. Yinam Leef, noted that Peres is a man of great vision, and “of book and deed,” who contributed greatly to the country’s security and to the country’s consolidation and advancement as a creative society, in terms of its scientific, cultural and human endeavor, and to innovation, progress and peace.
