Frum Flatbush Woman Appointed As Senior Advisor To NYC Mayor DeBlasio

Jennie Berger, a lifelong veteran of campaigns, advocacy and government, is joining City Hall as a Senior Advisor in the office of the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, where she will focus on the portfolio of areas overseen by J. Phillip Thompson, Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives. These areas include working to ensure the continued success and growth of ThriveNYC, the nation’s most comprehensive approach to mental health. She will also work with the Deputy Mayor on programs that fall under the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Department of Small Business Services, the Department of Veterans’ Services, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, and the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development.

Over the past four years, Berger served under former New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, where she worked on issue areas including food access and hunger-relief, healthcare, mental health, and developmental disabilities. She also served as the Speaker’s liaison to the Council’s Jewish Caucus and to New York’s Jewish community.

Before joining the City Council, Berger was a partner at Hudson TG, where she launched and oversaw the firm’s fundraising practice. She was a key strategist and advisor on campaigns throughout New York State, as well as on races as far away as South Carolina, Alabama and Hawaii. Berger previously worked in the political department of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee at its national office in Washington.

New York City roots run deep for Berger. She is the granddaughter of lifelong New York City public school teachers, her father is a small business owner who grew up in Far Rockaway, and her mother, who passed away just over a year ago, grew up in Canarsie and most recently worked at a yeshiva in Riverdale. Her husband, Kalman Yeger, represents the 44th Council District in the New York City Council.
