Haredim defend IDF officer from extremists in Beit Shemesh

An IDF officer was attacked by ultra-orthodox extremists Monday evening when paying a shiva call at a home in an ultra-orthodox in Beit Shemesh.

When Major Shraga Dahan, a military chaplain and hasidic Jew, were in the insular neighborhood of Ramat Beit Shemesh Bet to pay their respects to a family in mourning when they were attacked by members of an extremist sect. Dahan and another rabbi who was with him at the time were both verbally and physically abused, with their attackers spitting, throwing garbage and calling them Nazis.

Dahan, a French immigrant, is the rabbi of the Tel HaShomer military base, one of the country’s largest.
