Herzog: Ignoring Arab-Israeli equality demands could lead to rebellion

The government’s cutting of 500 million shekels that was meant for strengthening communities in the Arab sector is a clear example of its racist ignoring of the rightful demand for equality and social justice and the move might result in extreme consequences for Israeli society, opposition leader Isaac Herzog said on Saturday.

The decision to cut the funding was a continuation of the rift that the government created during the elections, that according to Herzog will lead Israel to places "that we don’t want to arrive and must not arrive at, even to the point of civilian rebellion."

Herzog made the comments in the Arab town of Tamra while on a tour of Arab communities in the North, one day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancelled a similar tour after he reportedly learned that his presence was not welcome.
