High Court sets off coalition fireworks, rules deputy minister can’t act as health minister

Potentially setting off coalition-wide fireworks, the High Court of Justice on Sunday night rejected the government’s arrangement that has allowed Deputy Health Minister Y’aakov Litzman to serve as acting Health Minister even as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held the formal title of minister.

The court said that Litzman has 60 days to quit as Deputy Health Minister or to agree to be appointed full-fledged health minister, including the full formal title, with the court writing that "reality cries out" against the current arrangement.

The issue came to the fore on a petition by Yesh Atid in July.
