Hollande tells Netanyahu he is opposed to boycotts

French President Francois Hollande expressed strong opposition to economic boycotts of Israel during a phone conversation Sunday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to a readout of the conversation put out by the Prime Minister’s Office, Hollande said that he wanted to preserve the economic ties between the two countries.

The conversation came in the wake of Orange CEO Stephane Richard’s comments in Cairo last week that if possible he would terminate his company’s contract with its Israeli subsidiary, Partner Communications, “tomorrow.” He later apologized for his comment and said Orange was in Israel “to stay.”
