Holot detention center begins releasing hundreds of African migrants

Authorities on Tuesday began the release of 1,200 African migrant from detention centers in the South, two weeks after a High Court of Justice decision on Israel’s disputed "anti-infiltration law."

The court partially rejected a petition against the  law, ruling that while jailing migrants at the Holot detention facility in the Negev is constitutional, holding them for up to 20 months is disproportionate.

According to media reports, the Holot detention center in the Negev is set to release some 600 African migrants Tuesday, and a similar number are slated to leave detention facilities on Wednesday.
