Violence is a direct result of incitement that children are exposed to, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Fox News on Thursday, in reference to the latest terror wave in Israel.
To prove her point, Hotovely presented a textbook used in the 7th grade in the Palestinian Authority as part of the national curriculum.
“One of the official poems [in this textbook] speaks about the glorifying of the ‘shahid’. The ‘shahid’, of course, is the suicide murderer,” said Hotovely.
“What this poet says to young children,” she continued, “is that the most glorifying death is to be dead and to kill. That’s what the Palestinian Authority is encouraging.”
“A young 12-year-old reads this and later, when he’s 13, he goes out to the streets and actually tries to kill a Jew. This is a culture of death. This is a culture of glorifying terrorists and terrorism towards the Jewish state and it’s coming from the official words of the Palestinian Authority, including the leadership.”
Hotovely earlier this week pointed out in an editorial in The Wall Street Journal that the latest surge of Arab terror attacks against Jews immediately followed a "well-orchestrated campaign of violence" and "explicit calls by the Palestinian leadership to 'spill blood.'”
She quoted Abbas, who said on PA television on September 16: “We welcome every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem. This is pure blood, clean blood, blood on its way to Allah. With the help of Allah, every martyr will be in heaven, and every wounded will get his reward.”
