The Israeli Air Force on Monday evening launched airstrikes against two terrorist infrastructures belonging to Hamas in southern Gaza.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement the airstrikes were in retaliation for an earlier rocket attack on southern Israel.
In the attack, which took place just after 7:05 p.m., at least one rocket struck an open field in the Sha'ar Hanegev region, causing no physical injuries or damage.
“The IDF will not tolerate terrorist fire at Israeli territory and will continue to act severely against any attempt to disturb the peace of the southern towns. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for any act of terrorism from the Gaza Strip,” the IDF statement said.
MK Haim Yellin (Yesh Atid) criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu over Monday evening’s rocket fire, as he has done in the past following similar incidents.
"The shooting at the State of Israel from the Gaza Strip did not stop for a moment and for the Israeli prime minister, the situation is normal and routine and can last," he said.
He further accused Netanyahu of "abandoning Israel on the front lines," including on security issues in general, Arab terror, rocket fire from Gaza, and Jerusalem-related issues.
"A leader must lead, act with courage and strive to make decisions even if they are difficult."
