Increase in the number of students eligible for matriculation certificates

There has been a rise in the number of students eligible for matriculation certificates over the past five years, according to new statistics released from the Education Ministry on Tuesday.

In the 2013/14 school year, 65.5 percent of students who studied in high school were eligible for certificates, a slight increase over the year before (64.2%) and up from 57.8% in the 2008/09 school year.

75.1% of Jewish students, other than ultra-Orthodox students, who studied in high school in the 2013/14 school year were eligible. Only 4,788 ultra-Orthodox students took matriculation exams in the 2013/14 school year, representing 27.3% of those in the age-range to take the exams, and only 1,511 were eligible for certificates.
