Interior Minister Deri: We won’t sit in gov’t that recognizes the Reform movement

Shas chairman and Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said on Monday that his party would not remain in a government that recognizes the Reform Movement.

His comments are the latest in a series of threats by the haredi political parties to the coalition following an agreement signed between the government and the non-Orthodox movements to create a pluralist prayer space at the Western Wall.

“We won’t sit in a government that recognizes the Reform, not over the Western Wall, not for marriage and not for divorce,” Deri told Channel 2 in an interview on Monday, using the word Reform as a catchall for the non-Orthodox denominations.
