European Parliament Foreign Affairs committee chair Elmar Brok and a delegation of European parliamentarians where banned from speaking to foreign media by Iranian authorities.
The group had organized a press conference at their hotel; however members of the Iranian police barred all foreign press access to the visiting group. An Iranian news team was the only media outlet allowed to meet Brok.
After the incident Brok commented: “an old attitude that has nothing to do with the new policy” of Iran. But this “unfortunate incident did not spoil the visit,” he said, specifying that he canceled the interview with Iranian television, according to AFP.
The activities of the all foreign press, specifically western media, are closely monitored at all times, and subject to multiple authorizations.
