ISIS released a video today (Saturday) purportedly showing the jihadist group executing 25 soldiers in the Syrian city of Palmyra.
According to AFP, the soldiers all appear to be from the Syrian army, which is still loyal to Bashar al-Asad. They are believed to have been captured last month, during fighting in the city of Homs.
The video was filmed in Palmyra's ancient amphitheater. It depicts the captives kneeling on the central stage before they are shot by teenage executioners. The massacre is believed to have taken place around May 21, when ISIS captured the city.
Human rights groups claim that, in the past year, ISIS has executed more than 3,000 people in Syria alone. About 1,800 were civilians, including 74 children.
