Israel asks UN to condemn Iranian cartoon contest

Israel made a request to the UN on Saturday to condemn the Iranian cartoon contest scheduled to take place in two months, which is reported to have a Holocaust denial theme. According to Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor, “the competition gives legitimacy to Holocaust denial and encourages Holocaust deniers to continue their incitement.” The competition organizers said it was a response to French magazine Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed. Last month, a terror attack on Charlie Hebdo’s headquarters killed 11 people.
