Israel close to deal with Palestinians to avoid FIFA suspension vote

Representatives at the FIFA congress reported on Friday afternoon that Israel was working to close a deal to avoid a vote on the Palestinian proposal to suspend Israel from the organization.

Members of the Israeli and Palestinian delegations to the FIFA Congress used the 90-minute lunch break to try and broker a deal to avoid bringing the proposed suspension of Israel from the organization to a vote.

Earlier in the day,  a female protester waving a Palestine flag and shouting at FIFA president Sepp Blatter was ejected from the FIFA Congress on Friday after storming the Congress meeting room. Additionally, a demonstration of around 50 anti-Israel, pro-Palestine supporters assembled in the road opposite the entrance to the Congress.
