Israel Opera to open new season

The Israel Opera opens its season with the mesmerizing bel canto tragedy Norma by Vincenzo Bellini.

Celebrated for its finely shaped melodies and exquisite arias, Norma is set during the Roman occupation of Gaul in 50 BCE, and tells the tale of a passionate love triangle in the midst of a deepening culture clash that has dangerous consequences. A Druid high priestess, Norma, is in the throes of despair after learning her lover Pollione, a Roman proconsul with whom she has two children, has been unfaithful.
