Israel state attorney stiffens penalties for rock throwing

State Attorney Shai Nitzan on Wednesday officially ordered all prosecutors to seek stiffer penalties for rock throwing, with the instruction extending even to minors.

The instruction is supposed to focus especially on those who throw rocks on vehicles on a roadway, which the state has already defined as being an act which can cause real danger to the lives of passengers in the vehicles.

Nitzan’s instruction includes not only seeking longer jail sentences across-the-board for that category of rock throwers, but also automatically asking courts to keep defendants detained until the end of their trials.
