Yoni Erlich’s impressive and unexpected run at Wimbledon came to an end on Thursday, with the Israeli and German partner Philipp Petzschner losing in the semifinals of the doubles tournament 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to No. 13 seeds Jamie Murray and John Peers.
Erlich was playing in the last four of Wimbledon for the second time in his career, 12 years after doing so for the first time in his breakthrough tournament with Andy Ram.
The 38-year-old Erlich had played with seven different partners this year before teaming up with Petzschner and entering the Wimbledon qualifiers. Erlich had recorded little success since last playing with Ram on the ATP Tour in the Australian Open in January 2014, but he clicked immediately with Petzschner, who won the doubles tournament at Wimbledon in 2010.
