Ivanka Trump not eligible to vote in NY primary

NEW YORK (JTA) — Ivanka Trump won't be voting for her father, Republican candidate Donald Trump, in the New York primary because she missed a voter registration deadline.

Ivanka Trump, who underwent an Orthodox conversion to Judaism in 2009, did not switch her voter affiliation from independent to Republican on time, meaning she is not eligible to participate in the state’s closed primary election next week. Her brother, Eric, will not be voting for the same reason, Reuters reported Monday.

The two have nonetheless played an active role in Trump’s campaign, speaking at events and recording videos on his behalf.

Trump’s oldest son, Donald Jr., was already registered as a Republican, according to Reuters, while the registration of his other voting-age child, Tiffany, was not immediately known.

According to Reuters, existing voters were required to have switched affiliations by early October, whereas the deadline for new voter registrations was March 25.

“They were unaware of the rules," Trump said Monday on Fox News. "They feel very, very guilty. But it's fine. I mean, I understand that."

Both Eric and Ivanka have made political contributions to candidates of both major parties, according to Reuters.
