Khamenei adviser: Not prudent for Assad to step down

Ali Akbar Velayati, a close adviser of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Sunday during a conference in Tehran that “it is not prudent for Assad to step down” in Syria. “The Islamic State won’t have mercy on anyone if the organization takes over Damascus,” Velayati said.
