Knesset approves first reading of minimum wage bill

A Knesset plenum approved on the first reading a bill to raise the minimum wage. 49 MKs supported the measure, while MK Orit Struck abstained. The program will gradually raise the minimum wage over two years until it reaches NIS 5,000 per month. The bill will now be passed on to the Welfare and Labor Committee, which will convene to prepare it for a second and third reading, with the goal of bringing it to a second and third reading as soon as later in the day.
