Knesset Chair, Chief of police meet amid reports of ‘secret police dossier on Knesset MKs’

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein on Wednesday met with National Police Commissioner Inspector General Roni Alsheich and head of the Police Investigations and Intelligence branch Assistant chief Meni Yitzhaki, following reports this week police have compiled a special file on the country’s politicians.

In a statement released after the meeting by the Israel Police, Alsheich was quoted as saying that police are forbidden from initiating investigations on public officials without first receiving instruction to do so by the Attorney General or State Prosecutor, and that the document was for internal police use, in order to ensure that nothing fell through the cracks during investigations of Knesset members, and that all relevant information was passed on to the AG.
