Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid confirmed on Saturday that aides to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited him to join the coalition as foreign minister.
The offer – first reported earlier this week by Channel 2’s Amit Segal – included ministerial posts for three more Yesh Atid MKs.
“We told them it’s not going to happen and there is nothing to discuss,” Lapid told Channel 2’s Meet the Press. “We should not be part of this government.”
Likud officials denied the earlier reports, and issued another denial after Saturday’s program.
According to Lapid, he intends to travel to the U.S. next week for “political meeting.” “The infrastructure for the next government should be prepared,” he said.
