Left attacks ‘poorly attended,’ ‘extremist’ rally for soldier

MK Shelly Yechimovich (Zionist Union) sharply criticized participants in a rally for IDF soldier Elor Azariya Tuesday, claiming that those who support the soldier are "extremists."

"Despite this clumsy experience – and a false one, as if it were a demonstration [just] calling to support the IDF – it was a poorly attended demonstration of hatred of the extreme right, and of those who do not know our kids and the IDF," Yechimovich began.

"Even the attempt to paint this as a demonstration for the sake of 'the son of us all' is distorted," she continued. "My children would never do the same, like the vast majority of our children."

Thousands flooded Tel Aviv's Rabin Square Tuesday night in support of Azariya, who faces manslaughter charges for controversially shooting dead a neutralized terrorist. He claims he thought the terrorist was attempting to detonate an explosive device, while military prosecutors say shot the terrorist without cause.

Other soldiers at the scene, a Magen David Adom (MDA) investigative committee and a CID officer have all confirmed that concerns of a bomb belt had not been ruled out.
