Looking toward Labor primary, Yacimovich recruits supporters

Labor is legendary for frequent turnover in its leadership, and a Facebook post by MK Shelly Yacimovich Sunday seemed to show that she would like the party to stick with its longtime tradition.

According to Labor bylaws, if the party leader, in this case opposition leader Isaac Herzog, does not become prime minister, then the party must hold a leadership primary 14 months after the election, meaning May 2016, even though Labor merged lists with Hatnua to form Zionist Union.

Yacimovich, who was Labor leader from 2011-2013, did not waste time in beginning to recruit supporters to the party ahead of the vote, asking them to join the party and convince their friends and family to do so, and providing detailed instructions on Facebook.
