Maccabi Tel Aviv back to winning ways in BSL

Maccabi Tel Aviv remained in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the BSL playoffs for at least one more day on Tuesday, beating Maccabi Kiryat Gat 92-84 at Yad Eliyahu Arena to improve to 21-9.

Maccabi closed within two-and-a-half games of leader Hapoel Jerusalem, but the reigning champion can nevertheless wrap-up first place at the end of the regular season with a victory over Ironi Nahariya on Wednesday.

Trevor Mbakwe had 17 points for Maccabi in his first game back from injury after almost two months on the sidelines. DeShawn Sims and Paul Delaney scored 21 points each for Kiryat Gat, which fell to 10-20, tied for last place with Ironi Ness Ziona, erasing a 17-point deficit to tie the score with seven minutes to play only to then be outscored 14-4.
