Pensioner-Affairs Minister Uri Orbach (Habayit Hayehudi) remains hospitalized in Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem with a life-threatening blood disease.
Orbach was hospitalized two weeks ago. His condition deteriorated over the weekend. On Sunday the hospital said his medical situation had improved but he is not out of danger.
Two-and-a-half years ago the same illness kept him in the hospital for a month.
“Now I must devote my time to urgent and important treatment for my health,” the 54-year-old Petach Tikva native wrote on Facebook.
Orbach thanked everyone for their prayers and concern. He asked people not to visit and not to spread rumors, and he said he hoped to return to full health.
Orbach was elected to the Knesset for the first time in 2009 after a career in journalism. He took the pensioner-affairs portfolio in March 2013.
He is credited with bringing Naftali Bennett into Habayit Hayehudi, prompting a changing of the guard to younger leadership in the party. Bennett holds two ministerial portfolios, economic affairs and religious services.
