MK Galon: ‘Uninhibited’ New Government Sabotaging Future Accord

Meretz Chairwoman MK Zeheva Galon expressed her angry disapproval of the coalition accord between the Likud and Jewish Home parties, according to which disputed homes and neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria will receive legal status.

"This government is going to invest its vigor and resources in continuing the takeover and dispossession of Palestinian lands in places like Mitzpe Yitzhar, Givat Sal'it, Einot Kedem and Migron,” Galon said. "All this with the clear aim of placing more and more explosive charges in a future accord.”

"So what if, along the way, they deepen the international isolation that Israel is in? The main thing is that the frinds in the settler lobby will be pleased,” she went on.

Galon blamed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. “The Prime Minister cannot kay the blame for this unacceptable clause on the Jewish Home's blackmailing power. That is how an uninhibited right-wing government looks, and they will have to pay for the way they are about to cause Israel to fall into the abyss.”

According to coalition agreements, the new government to be sworn in next Wednesday is obligated to arrange the legal status of Jewish buildings in Judea and Samaria on land that was allegedly privately owned by Arabs.

At the request of Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett in coalition talks, Cabinet Secretary Avichai Mandelblit will head a special team that will draft a plan to legalize buildings and neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria that were established with government involvement and under the agreement of the state.

The team, which will be established within a month of the new government being sworn in, is to submit its outline within 60 days of being formed.

It will consist of Mandelblit, as well as professional representatives of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud), and Jewish Home MKs Uri Ariel and Ayelet Shaked, who are to be appointed agriculture and justice minister, respectively.

In the coalition agreement between Likud and Jewish Home, the government will be obligated to act to implement the findings of the team.
