MK Ilan Gilon fails in bid to save IBA from closure

Meretz MK Ilan Gilon failed in his bids to save the Israel Broadcasting Authority from closure and to restore the status quo that was in place two governments ago.

Gilon on Sunday proposed to the Inter-ministerial Committee on Legislation that in view of the failure to set up a successor to the IBA, that the bill which had been passed in haste be scrapped. Gilon was convinced that the reasoning behind the dismantling of the IBA was to transform public broadcasting into an echo chamber for the government.  His proposal was voted down.
