MK Magal bill seeks to end businesses’ discrimination against West Bank residents

A bill fining business owners for location-based discrimination cleared a hurdle in the Knesset Wednesday, passing a preliminary reading.

The legislation by MK Yinon Magal (Bayit Yehudi) states that a company must state in advance the areas to which it does not provide services or deliver products. If the company does not notify a customer of its limitations in advance, it will be required to pay NIS 10,000 fine without proof of damages to the customer.

In addition, the law prohibits residence-based discrimination in the place of business, so, for example, a bouncer at a bar or nightclub cannot turn people away based on their residence in the West Bank or in a predominately Arab town.
