MK Refuses to Apologize for Call to Bulldoze High Court

MK Motti Yogev (Jewish Home) is not going to apologize for the harsh remarks against the High Court, he said Wednesday, despite a fierce backlash from fellow MKs.

"Despite the valid zoning plan and the construction permit, the High Court ruled unjustly, in a way befitting charlatans,” an angry Yogev had stated earlier Wednesday.

"A D9 [bulldozer] shovel should be used against the High Court,” he added. “We, as a legislative system, will make sure to rein in the legalistic rule in this country, and the tail that wags the dog.”

MKs from both sides of the political spectrum criticized Yogev for the statement, but he insisted Wednesday night that "the court earned my statement, and I offer them to check themselves."

''Of course, my statement is metaphorical and I am not actually calling for violence," he added.

Yogev said, as well, that he would not self-censor in the future.

"Most Israelis think like me," he said.

Yogev's comments follow a political storm after his earlier remarks, including an official response from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

"Israel is a law-abiding democracy that honors the decision of the court," Netanyahu released in an official statement Wednesday afternoon. "Thus it has been and thus it will be."
