Mob boss arrested day after his rivals indicted on murder charges

One of the top organized crime figures in Israel was arrested on Tuesday in Rishon Letzion, a day after police and tax authorities launched raids against a series of businesses linked to his organization.

Moti Hassin was arrested Tuesday for illegal firearms possession, money laundering, and tax crimes, after two pistols were found during the police raids, as well as several hundred thousand shekels in cash.

Hassin has reputedly been one of the acting heads of the Abergil crime organization since former boss Itzik Abergil was extradited to the United States in 2011 on organized crime charges, Police said the raids were carried out at a bottle recycling plant in Bat Yam, as well as a clothing store in the city, and a restaurant in Rishon Letzion. All three businesses are allegedly linked to the Abergil organization.
